Dissertation Process for Students Enrolled in Master and Doctoral Degree Programs

Background

A dissertation at both the master’s and doctoral levels in Christian Ministry Education serves as a scholarly research project, but they differ in scope, depth, and purpose. Below is a breakdown of the differences and expectations for each level.

 

Master's Level Dissertation: 

  • Demonstrates the student’s ability to engage in graduate-level research.

  • Applies biblical, theological, and ministry principles to a practical issue in Christian education or ministry.

  • Focuses on theological reflection and practical ministry applications, rather than groundbreaking theoretical contributions.

Most Common Research Topics for Master's Level Dissertation: 

  • The Role of Biblical Theology in Pastoral Preaching

  • Developing a Biblical Counseling Framework for Church Leadership

  • Exegetical Study on the Pastoral Epistles and Their Application to Modern Ministry

  • The Impact of Theological Education on Ministerial Effectiveness

  • Spiritual Formation and Discipleship in the Local Church

Doctoral Level Dissertation: 

  • Demonstrates original research that contributes to the academic fields of theology and pastoral training.
