Spreading the Gospel and Transforming Lives
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” - Matthew 28:19-20 (KJV)
Throughout history, God has raised up faithful men and women to carry His gospel to the nations. From Evan Roberts, who led the Welsh Revival, to Hudson Taylor, who dedicated his life to China, these individuals obeyed the Great Commission with unwavering faith.
Missionaries like William Carey, Adoniram Judson, and David Livingstone laboured tirelessly, translating the Bible, establishing churches and transforming cultures from within. They did not seek to destroy local traditions but allowed the gospel to bring renewal and truth. Bartholomaeus Ziegenbalg, for example, was the first to translate the New Testament into Tamil, showing how God’s Word can reach every heart in its own language.
However, revival is not just about great leaders - it is about the work of the Holy Spirit. True revival renews lives to be more Christlike, reforms teachings to be more biblical and empowers believers to be more effective witnesses. It is not about chasing spectacular signs but about deep, lasting transformation.
The explosion of missions in the 1800s was not by chance. It was fuelled by evangelical revivals, missionary societies and faithful individuals who believed in the power of the gospel. As modern-day believers, we are called to continue this mission, sharing Christ in our families, communities, and beyond.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the faithful men and women who have gone before us, spreading Your Word to the ends of the earth. May we learn from their faith and dedication. Fill us with the Holy Spirit so that we may be effective witnesses in our own mission fields. Give us boldness to share the gospel, wisdom to disciple others and hearts that burn with love for You. Let revival begin in us, transforming our lives so that we may shine Your light in a dark world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Amen. Thank you for your dedication to the Word of God and applying it through time and history to defeat the forces of darkness and evil.
Sincerely,
Reverend Bridgett M. Pitts M.S. Ph.D Student
