The Truth About Christ’s Return and Judgment

“For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.” — 1 Thessalonians 4:16

As Christians, we eagerly await the return of Christ, but Scripture reminds us that His coming will be unmistakable and glorious. The Bible does not support the idea of a secret rapture followed by a second coming years later. Instead, Christ will return publicly, with power and great glory, to gather His people and bring judgment upon the world (Matthew 24:30-31).

Many signs will precede His return—global turmoil, the spread of the gospel, and a great falling away from the faith (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4). However, no one knows the exact day or hour except the Father (Matthew 24:36). What matters most is that we remain faithful, always ready and grounded in the truth of God’s Word.

Judgment is real, and those whose names are not written in the Book of Life will face eternal separation from God (Revelation 20:15). But for those in Christ, there is no fear—only the promise of eternal life in His presence. Our response should be one of gratitude, urgency and obedience: trusting in Jesus, sharing the gospel and preparing our hearts for His coming.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise of Christ’s return. Help us to remain faithful and watchful, living in obedience to Your Word. Give us boldness to share the gospel so that many may come to know You before it is too late. Strengthen us to endure trials and keep our hearts fixed on eternity with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
