Life: Like a Vapour
Bible Verse:
“Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” – James 4:14 (KJV)
Message:
Life is fleeting. James reminds us that our time on earth is like a vapour—temporary, fragile, and uncertain. We make plans, set goals, and work towards achievements, yet we have no control over the length of our days. This verse is a sobering reminder that our existence is brief, and we should not take it for granted.
Explanation:
Just as vapour appears momentarily and disappears, so too does human life. We may pursue wealth, status, and earthly pleasures, but in the grand scheme, these are temporary. What truly matters is how we live in light of eternity. Do we use our time wisely? Are we walking in faith and obedience to God? Are we storing up treasures in heaven rather than focusing only on worldly gains?
Reflection:
• Am I living with an eternal perspective, or am I too caught up in temporary concerns?
• How can I make each day count for God’s glory?
• Am I prepared for the day when my time on earth comes to an end?
Instead of boasting about tomorrow, we should seek God’s will daily, trusting Him for the future. Our focus should be on honouring Him with our time, talents, and resources.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of life. Help me to remember that my days are numbered and that life is but a vapour. Teach me to use my time wisely, to seek Your will above all else, and to live with eternity in mind. May my life bring glory to You, and may I be a light to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
