The Purpose of God’s Law and Our Witness for Christ

Romans 3:20 – “No one will be declared righteous in His sight by observing the law; rather through the law we become conscious of sin.”

God’s laws were not meant to be a burden but to reveal His holiness and our need for His grace. Many Jews in Acts 15:10 found the law burdensome because they sought righteousness through their own efforts. However, as Galatians 3:24 explains, the law was given to lead us to Christ, showing us our sinfulness and our need for salvation.

At Mount Sinai, when God’s presence descended, the Israelites trembled with fear (Exodus 20:18-19), recognising His power and holiness. They were instructed to prepare themselves (Exodus 19:10-15), which highlights the need for purity when approaching God.

Psalm 51:1-10 reminds us that forgiveness is not earned through works but received through God’s mercy. Paul further clarifies in Romans 3:20 that no one can be justified by the law alone, as it only reveals sin rather than removing it. Our righteousness comes through faith in Christ.

This truth is crucial to our witness. Vocal witnessing is both an act of obedience and a joy because it honours God. When we share the gospel, God can use our words to save others from spiritual death (Luke 15:7). True joy is found not in earthly treasures but in seeing lives transformed by Christ.

Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Your holiness through the law and Your grace through Jesus Christ. Help us to recognise our need for You and to share the gospel boldly. May our witness bring honour to Your name and lead others to salvation. Fill our hearts with joy as we see lives changed for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection:

• Do I see God’s law as a burden, or as a guide leading me to Christ?

• How can I prepare my heart daily to meet with God?

• Am I actively sharing my faith with others as an act of obedience and joy?

• What treasures am I storing up - worldly possessions or spiritual rewards in heaven?

Let this message encourage us to rely on God’s grace, walk in obedience and witness boldly for Christ
