Equipped for a Greater Purpose: Fulfilling the Great Commission Through Education

As students at Queens College, we are not just studying to build our careers or achieve personal success, but we are also preparing for a greater purpose—the Great Commission. Education is not just about getting a degree; it’s about equipping us to serve others, lead, and make a positive impact in our communities and beyond.

The Great Commission, as shown in Matthew 28:19-20, tells us to go into the world, make disciples, and teach others to follow Christ. This is not just a call for church leaders, but for all of us who believe. Every step we take in our studies is part of God’s plan to prepare us for this mission.

The knowledge and skills we gain through our studies are meant to help others—whether by teaching, leading, counselling, or serving in other ways. As we learn more in our chosen fields, we must remember that it is all to help us make a difference. Whether we end up working in education, healthcare, business, the arts, or any other field, our work can help spread God’s love and bring peace, justice, and care to the world.

Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV) says: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” This verse reminds us that God is with us in every task, including our studies. The knowledge we gain is not just for ourselves, but to help us share God’s message and serve others.

As we work hard in our studies, we must also make sure our lives reflect the teachings of Christ. Our honesty, kindness, and willingness to help others show our faith. We should be examples to those around us, sharing God’s love in all we do. Every relationship we build, every challenge we face, and every success we have can be an opportunity to bring glory to God and spread His message.

In the end, the goal of our education is not just to become successful, but to use what we learn to help others and carry out God’s command. Our studies are just the beginning of a much bigger mission. Let our time at Queens College be a journey that helps us fulfil our calling and make a positive impact in the world for God’s Kingdom.

A Prayer for Purpose and Guidance

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with grateful hearts, thanking You for the opportunity to study and grow. We ask that You guide us as we pursue our education, not just for our personal gain, but to equip us for the greater purpose You have set before us. Help us remember that our studies are a tool to serve others, to spread Your love, and to fulfil the Great Commission.

Lord, give us wisdom and understanding in all that we learn. May we use our knowledge and skills to make a positive impact in the world, reflecting Your love and grace in everything we do. Strengthen our character, that we may be honest, kind, and compassionate, shining as lights to those around us.

We ask for Your constant presence, Lord, to be with us in every challenge, every success, and every step of our journey. Help us keep our hearts focused on You and Your mission for our lives. May our time at Queens College be a time of growth, purpose, and service, so that we can make a difference in the world for Your Kingdom.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
