Queens College of Theology is proud to announce the official launch of its new Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree program, a robust and pastorally focused graduate program that replaces the college’s previous Master of Ministry degree.
This marks a significant step in expanding academic rigor and ministry preparation by introducing a previously tuition billed program into the tuition-free initiative to better prepare Pastors.
The new Master of Divinity program is delivered 100% online and designed to equip students for a lifetime of ministry, offering deeper theological study, personal spiritual formation, and practical training for pastoral leadership. Tailored for those who hold a bachelor’s degree, the MDiv spans 2 to 3 years—significantly longer and more comprehensive than the outgoing one-year Master of Ministry.
Unlike the previous self-paced structure, the MDiv adopts a semester-based system, requiring students to formally enroll in each course every semester. This structured approach allows for more intentional academic progress, while retaining the flexibility of online learning. Students may enroll part-time or full-time but must not exceed five courses per semester. A key policy change: any student who does not enroll in courses for two consecutive semesters will be removed from the program and must reapply and pay the program activation fee again.
While there are no specializations currently offered, Queens College of Theology anticipates developing concentrations within the MDiv in the future.
As part of its updated tuition-free model, Queens College of Theology reaffirms its commitment to providing access to quality theological education without charging by the credit hour. However, the new financial model requires a one-time, non-refundable $300 Program Activation Fee, due before beginning the program. This replaces the former policy of collecting the fee at the end of the degree and allows for better funding of future program initiatives. Discounts are available for students with financial need.
Additionally, all applicants to any degree program at Queens College of Theology will now be required to pay a $25 admission application fee. The College believes that great servants of Christ, including those from impoverished or developing nations, can and should contribute this nominal fee as an act of investment in their calling and future ministry.
What to expect in the new MDiv Program? Coursework in biblical studies, theological reflection, biblical languages like Greek and Hebrew, Christian leadership, pastoral care, evangelism, apologetics, and supervised ministry internships. This Master of Divinity program does not require a graduate thesis.
Through this program, students will engage in spiritual formation, gain hands-on experience, and develop the tools necessary for service in churches, missions, and other ministry contexts.
Dr. R. Leon Leftwich, Chancellor shared, “While many students enjoyed our Master of Ministry program, it became apparent that more and more church boards looked for the Master of Divinity degree from their Pastors. For the longest time, the only way we could offer that program was by requiring the students to pay thousands in tuition costs. With the great help of our academic partners, and some new cost saving online infrastructure learning systems, we are now able to fold the Master of Divinity program into our tuition-free initiative, and make our Pastors better prepared for ministry.”
