Queens College of Theology is pleased to announce a series of updates to its admissions policy that strengthen our commitment to academic excellence while honoring the lived experience of those called to ministry.
These changes, which go into effect immediately, bring our application standards in line with what is expected at most Christian colleges and seminaries, while maintaining the accessibility and flexibility that are foundational to our mission.
Clear Academic Standards Across All Programs
Applicants to undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs will now find clearly defined academic requirements:
Bachelor’s programs require a high school diploma or equivalent.
Master’s programs require a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Doctoral programs require a master’s degree in theology, ministry, or a closely related field with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
We accept transcripts from all accredited schools, and verifiable unaccredited Christian institutions.
“We believe that serious ministry requires serious preparation,” said Chancellor Dr. Leftwich. “These updated criteria ensure that our students are well-equipped to engage in faithful and rigorous theological study.”
A Renewed Emphasis on Calling and Purpose
In addition to transcripts, all applicants will now be required to submit a Statement of Purpose essay. This essay invites students to articulate their personal sense of calling, ministry goals, and how theological education will shape their spiritual and vocational journey.
Honoring Ministry Experience through Life Pathway Admissions
For those who have served faithfully in the church but may not hold formal academic degrees, Queens College of Theology is reaffirming its commitment to accessibility through its Life Experience Admission Pathway, available in our tuition-free programs.
Applicants to Master’s-level programs may apply with at least 7 years of documented church leadership and a pastoral recommendation.
Applicants to Doctoral programs must have at least 12 years of church leadership and a letter of recommendation from a pastor or board member. Please note, we highly recommend these students to consider a Masters level program first. Getting through admissions will be very difficult.
Ministry resumes and recommendations can now be uploaded directly in the admissions portal, streamlining the process for experienced church leaders.
A Christ-Centered Commitment
At the heart of these changes is the QCT’s unshakable commitment to Christ-centered theological education. By refining our admissions processes, Queens College of Theology continues to nurture the next generation of leaders who are academically prepared, spiritually grounded, and pastorally equipped to serve the Body of Christ.
